It was the summer of 2004, when we booked our first cruise. I didn’t know what to expect, we had been taking land vacations since 1998 and was only going on the cruise because my Mother In Law invited us.
I had no idea that we would become addicted and still be cruising in 2016.
We live about 3 hours from Galveston,Tx., where we would be boarding the Carnival Celebration for a 5 day cruise to Calica and Cozumel,Mexico.
As we turned the corner near the port and seen the ship sitting there, I felt a little excitement but I still had no clue that the next 5 days would change my life forever.
We checked in, boarded the ship and headed straigt for the dining room to eat. I will never forget the feeling I had when the automatic doors opened from the atrium and I seen lido deck for the first time!
The sound of steel drums, waiters walking around with trays full of fruity drinks, water running down the twister slide into the pool, people laying out,the was sun shining and the smell of hamburgers on the grill….we were officially on vacation!
The M/S Celebration was retired by Carnival Cruise Lines but the memories of that “little” ship will live with me forever!
After we ate hamburgers and steak fries, we went to check out our cabin. We found our number and opened the door…my exact words were “HEY, This looks like a little motel room!”
The “Fun Times” is a paper activity schedule that is left in your cabin each night so you will know what is going on around the ship the next day, we couldn’t believe how much there was to do.
We went to every club and the casino on the first night…actually we went every night and we had a blast but there was one lounge that w
e really enjoyed -The Red Hot Piano Bar.
The music was great, the lights were dim….just something about sitting in a corner booth listening to the entertainer sing soft rock hits and the feeling of total relaxation, I still think about that place often,it’s mostly responsible for my cruise addiction.
When we arrived in Cozumel, Mexico all I could say was “Look how blue the water is!!” we met our tour guides that we had booked with online before the cruise. We rode around the island in Jeeps (The east side is beautiful), went snorkeling and ate chicken fajitas, we had a very good time!
Our 12th cruise is booked for April 23,2016 and our 13th is booked for October 2, 2016
Thanks for reading my first blog about my first cruise, I could go on and on but it’s late…so until next time, Blue Skies and Happy Sailing!
